Mangaluru, Feb 3: Speaker UT Khader announced that the Vidhana Soudha complex will host a book and literature fair from February 28 to March 3. The event aims to open the Vidhana Soudha premises to the public and foster a love for reading among the masses.
Addressing a press conference at the Mangaluru Circuit House on Monday, Februray 3, Khader stated that the fair will feature participation from renowned writers, intellectuals, authors, ministers, legislators, and book enthusiasts. Chief minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the event on February 28.
The fair will include literary discussions, seminars, and book release events. A high-level committee has been formed to ensure the success of the fair. Private publishers will also be given the opportunity to display their books, and authors can release their works during the event. Additionally, awards will be presented for outstanding literary contributions, Khader explained.
Legislators’ fund for book purchases
Legislators will be allowed to purchase books, including competitive exam materials and other in-demand titles, using their funds. They can then distribute these books to libraries and government colleges in their constituencies. A provision of Rs 2-3 lakh per legislator has been made for this purpose, the Speaker said.
Open to public with cultural programs
The fair will be open to the public, with cultural programs scheduled every evening. A food court offering a variety of snacks and meals will also be set up. Priority will be given to school and college students, and discussions and seminars will be held throughout the event, Khader added.
Invitation for logo design and award name
The organizing committee has invited the public to submit designs for the fair’s logo and suggest names for the literary award. Selected entries will receive prizes.
