Dubai: Dr Zulekha Daud Conferred New Global Indian Excellence Award

Dubai, Jan 9: Dr Zulekha Daud, managing director, Zulekha Healthcare Group, was honoured with New Global Indian Excellence Award for “Community Outreach and Healthcare Leadership” in a function at Pink City, Jaipur recently. Dr Zulekha Daud received the award from Aimaduddin Ahmad Khan, health minister, government of Rajasthan.
Other recipient of the honours were - Prof Asit K Biswas, president, Third World Centre for Water Management, Mexico, Mahen Utchanah, former tourism minister, Mauritius, Rita Abraham, SA Insurance Brokers, South Africa, Subhra Das, senior VP, Marketing and Customer Experience, du Telecom, UAE, Mitul Desai, senior advisor, US, Department of State.
New Global Indian Excellence Awards recognizes those who have made a difference in their professions or businesses, and positively impacted upon the lives of others. These awards of excellence are also designed to honour individuals and organizations that recognize the important connection between humankind and nature, to celebrate their success and inspire others to make such exceptional behavior the norm.
About Dr Zulekha Daud
Dr Zulekha Daud is the managing director Zulekha Healthcare Group, UAE and India.
She is the first Indian lady medical professional and an entrepreneur in UAE who tirelessly worked for the welfare of the Nationals and expats when healthcare access was very limited in the 60’s. She revolutionized the healthcare scenario and inspired others to follow suit. After four decades of tireless service today, the Group boasts of Super specialty Hospitals, Medical centres, Educational Institutes and pharmacy chain in UAE and India.
Dr Daud received her medical degree from the Government Medical College in Nagpur. Her parents were her role models, constantly encouraging her to take up challenges. Dr Daud arrived in UAE in 1964 to work in the Kuwaiti Mission Hospital located in Sharjah when there was a dearth of female doctors in the region. Medical care was in infancy during those times and doctors had limited resources to treat. In a short time Dr Zulekha was able to capture the hearts of the nationals and expatriates with her dedicated service.
This surged her with a dream of making world-class medical facilities providing family care at affordable costs .This realized with the establishment of Zulekha Hospital Sharjah in 1992 followed by a medical centre in Dhaid. The year 2004 saw the establishment of a second hospital in Dubai. Today the Group runs with 2 multi speciality hospitals, 3 medical centers and a pharmacy network. Her Leadership also saw many international Doctors partnering and associating with Zulekha Hospitals for super speciality clinical services. The Group also saw accreditation of its facilities with Joint commission International.
Dr Zulekha Daud firmly believes in societal development and affirms “Community service means giving back to the culture and people that surround you. It means supporting the immediate community on a local scale.” She has been actively associated with many NGO’s and Corporate for CSR drive – notable being – Diabetes, Cancer, Kidney and Arthritis awareness in the region. Dr Zulekha has founded a vocational training institute in her home town Nagpur – to provide education and skill training for the needy and rural mass.
For her notable work Dr Zulekha Daud received the Dubai Quality Appreciation award from His Highness His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice president and Prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. She was also ranked by the Arabian Business magazine as Gulf’s most powerful Indian lady. Still young at Heart Dr Zulekha is on her way to realize her parents’ dream – by setting up an ultra modern Hospital in her home town Nagpur– under the name Alexis Hospitals – which she dreams to nurture all across India in time to come.
