Udupi, Jan 10: A surveyor in the taluk office here, C M Mahesh, was nabbed by Lokayukta policemen when he was receiving bribe from a person on Monday January 9.

Reportedly, Lakshman Salian from Uchila had bought land at Uchila Bada village, and had applied for survey of the land concerned, by paying requisite fee. Mahesh offered to get the job done speedily, if he is paid Rs 4,500.

Lakshman paid Rs 2,500 to Mahesh, promising to pay the balance amount the next day. After the remaining amount of Rs 2,000 was paid the next day, the surveyor demanded an additional Rs 1,000 towards surveying of Lakshman’s mother-in-law’s land.  After that, Mahesh is said to have demanded an additional Rs 2,000 towards preparing 11e map of the land. Although Lakshman said he had no money, Lakshman continued to pester him, it is gathered. Frustrated with repeated demand for bribe, Lakshman lodged a complaint with Lokayukta police.

The Lokayukta policemen arrested Mahesh when he was accepting money from Lakshman on Monday. He was then produced in a court.  The raid was conducted by police circle inspectors, C E Timmaiah and B P Dinesh Kumar, along with other personnel, under the leadership of deputy superintendent of police, Sadananda M Varnekar and guidance of Lokayukta superintendent of police, D S Jagamayyanavar.

this dosn't make sense. Salian paid Mahesh the bribe couple of times. Mahesh got more greedy and then Salian complained to Lokayukta. Mahesh is guilty. What about Salian? he is guilty too for paying the bribe. Only when it got tough he complained to lokayukta. They both should be fined 10 times the amount and thrown into jail. jason.usa.

Without bribing no work can be done. This time Lakshman Salian got very frustrated of surveyor C.M. Mahesh's more demand for bribe which made him complain to the police. Good job by the police department. He should be put behind bars but I am sure he must have made enough money and made others also rich. This is a lesson for the other staff who are taking bribe for getting things done. Good pictures by Hemanath Padubidri of DAIJIWORLD but you should have published the picture of Mahesh separately. anyway thank you.

Now only Mahesh is caught. Fine, you go to any Govt. Dept, University Office to get your things done, even for a simple thing they make it complicated & demad money. First of all Govt. has to simplfy the things so that, the one who has the proper document can do their things without much problem as such.

If BJP is honest and they want to eradicate corruption why not bring a legislation in the Assembly which will result in all Government Employees losing 10 months salary for any corruption if it proved for the first time offence and suspension from job if the same person involves in corruption next 2nd time.

For Rs 4500 bribe atleast 10 police staff were involved I suppose. What
about the Rs 1 crore persons collecting/paying bribe who are roaming freely anything happening ?
For catching small flies these police
staff even get media publicity and rewards too. Jai Karnataka.

Mr. Lakshman Salian did a good job.
When whole country is behind Anna in his tirade against corruption how dare Mr.CMM is to demand bribe on so many instances in one particular matter which shows least respect to humanity in general and Mr.Lakshman Salian's request for inability to pay on demand after paying on all occassions. CM lost his chair on Lokayukta report. What about CMM?
