Mangalore, Jan 11: Sadashiv Ullal, an advocate by profession, was elected unanimously as the president of Bharathiya Thiya Samaj (Regd) having its head office at Mahakalipadpu in the city. The organization was formed under the presidentship of the late K Narayan from Mumbai in 1978. It has jurisdiction over 18 Bhagawati temples, and has highest memberships in Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra.

His election was announced at the general body meeting of the organization held on Monday January 9 at Sankappa Memorial Hall in the premises of the Samaj central committee. The meeting was presided over by Padmanabha Kadapa. In addition to Sadashiv, 31 persons were elected for a three-year term for the central council. From the central council, office bearers were chosen unopposed.

Rajgopal, Satishan and Udaykumar KP were elected as vice presidents. Janardhan B was elected as general secretary, while Sudhir B, Macchandra Koppal, and M Chandran were elected as zonal secretaries.  K Janardhan was chosen as treasurer.

Addressing the gathering, the newly elected president called upon all the elected members, elder members of the society and members of the central council to come together for the upliftment of the society and tread the path shown by Brahmasri Narayana Guru, towards alleviating the problems of the people, to strengthen the organizational structure of the community, and to ensure that all the sister concerns under the organization function efficiently.
