Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College celebrates its twenty-fourth Foundation Day

Mangaluru, Feb 12: Commemorating the twenty-fourth anniversary of laying the foundation stone of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), the college hosted its annual Foundation Day lecture on February 11 in the Kalam Auditorium of the college. Dr Anil Joseph Pinto, registrar, Christ University, Bengaluru delivered the Foundation Day lecture on the topic “Higher Education: Past Present and Future”.

Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, SJEC started the programme by welcoming the gathering and chief guest Dr Anil Joseph Pinto. He took the opportunity to recollect the journey of the college’s establishment, reflecting on the early days and its growth over the years. He also highlighted an important milestone, signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Christ Consultant, a partnership that promises to bring significant advancements to the college's mentor programme.

Dr Anil Joseph Pinto delivering an insightful address on the evolution of higher education, past, present, and future. He began by reflecting on the pivotal role played by old universities in shaping society, particularly their contributions to women’s education.

The chief guest emphasised how these institutions were crucial in not only fostering individual growth but also in creating broader social benefits, empowering entire communities. The chief guest explored the growing significance of online education. He discussed how digital learning platforms are enhancing skills development alongside traditional academic learning, providing students with a more flexible, accessible way to gain knowledge and expertise.

Looking to the future, the chief guest spoke about the National Education Policy (NEP) and its potential to transform society. He highlighted how the NEP aims to improve the educational system in India, with a focus on inclusivity, interdisciplinary learning, and fostering skills that align with the demands of a rapidly changing world.

Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, assistant director, Dr Purushottham chippar, vice principal, were present on the occasion. Dr Jennifer Charlotte Saldanha, assistant professor, department of electronics and communication, moderated the lecture. The programme was attended by all teaching, non-teaching staffs and post graduate students of SJEC.

The programme ended with a felicitation ceremony to the chief guest for the day, Dr Anil Joseph Pinto by the SJEC Management as a token of gratitude and respect. Jayashree M, convener of the programme delivered the vote of thanks.
