Mangalore all set for 17th National Youth Festival

Mangalore, Jan 11: More than 3,500 representatives from various states, union territories as well as from SAARC nations have registered their names for the 17th National Youth Festival-2012, which would be held here from January 12 to January 16, according to Additional Chief Secretary of Government of Karnataka K Jayaraj.

Addressing a press meet at media center established at Mangala Stadium after inspecting the arrangements for the mega event, he said that the participants, most of them from rural areas of the country, have expressed satisfaction over the arrangements.
 
 He also said that the number of participants would increase as the registration process is still on.















































Ahead of the formal inauguration of the five day event, a colourful procession will be taken out from Nehru Maidan to Mangala Stadium at 3 pm, he said.
 
Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda will be inaugurating the event at 5.30 pm while Union Minister for Corporate Affairs  M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Ajay Maken, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade will be the chief guests.
 
 All the cultural events will begin from January 13. Cultural dance events of Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Manipuri and Oddissi will be held at Sri Gokarnatheshwara temple hall. Town Hall will host mono act, musical events will be held at SDM Law college hall and folk music events will be held at Koragappa Kalyana mantap in Sri Gokarnanatheshwara temple.
 
 The youth who come from different parts of the country will be entertained with ‘Celebrity Nights’ at Mangala Stadium from January 13 to 15 from 7 pm.
 
On January 13—Hariharan and Leslie Louise will enthrall the participants. On January 14—Euphoria, On January 15—Shivamani, Kadri Gopalnath, Praveen Godkhindi and Narasimhalu  Vadavatti will perform. Vasundhara Das will perform on January 16.
 Principal Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports Department I R Perumal said as part of Youth Festival, food festival and ‘Yuva Krithi’ will be held at Karavali Utsav grounds, grounds sports at Nehru Maidan, water sports at Panambur beach.
 
 The special attraction of the Youth Festival will be boat race at Panambur beach on January 14, beach volleyball and throw ball on January 15. Kambala and flower show will be held at Pilikula on January 15.
 
Media Centre:

Director of Information Department K S Bevinamarada said that a media centre to facilitate the media persons had also been set up at Mangala Stadium with more than 25 computers, broadband internet, fax, copier, television sets for live coverage of the events, telephones and press conference hall.
 
Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and District in Charge Secretary Ram Prasad were present.

    The future of the country lies with the youth

    This youth festival is totally LOL material. I simply cannot fathom what people are feeling proud about, the people photographed hardly constitute youth. For me this seems to be a national festival of food poisoning.
