Karkala, Feb 16: A mobile phone explosion while charging led to a massive fire, gutting an entire house and causing losses worth several lakhs of rupees at Kishore Kumar Shetty’s residence in Marathappa Shetty Colony, 11th Cross, Tellaru Road, on Saturday early morning.
The incident occurred around 4 am in the two-storey house with six rooms.

The mobile phone, which was kept on a sofa, exploded and immediately caught fire, engulfing the entire house. Fire brigade personnel arrived promptly after being alerted and battled the flames for over two and a half hours to bring the fire under control. It is suspected that the air conditioner, which was switched on at the time, contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
House owner Kishore Kumar Shetty sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Station officer Alpert Monis, local leader Hariprasad Shettigar, driver Jaya Moolya, and Ravichandra were involved in the firefighting operation.
