Mangaluru, Feb 17: A heated argument erupted between MLA Vedavyas Kamath and district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao over the double inauguration of a development project at Mangaladevi ward.

The disagreement took place during the KDP meeting at the zilla panchayat on Monday, February 17.

Expressing his disappointment, MLA Vedavyas Kamath criticized the minister for inaugurating the project again on February 15. "I received an invitation to my office for the inauguration on February 9, which I attended. However, you termed it unofficial and held another inauguration on February 15, calling it the official one," he said.

He further questioned, "Who sent me the invitation? How am I supposed to know which inauguration is official and which is not?" Kamath urged the minister to take action on the matter.

Additionally, he expressed his dissatisfaction over the closure of the PHC for two days.

Meanwhile, Smart City officials and the MCC commissioner stated that they were unaware of the February 9 inauguration.

Responding to the allegations, district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao remarked, "Was it a miracle that an invitation was sent, a stage was set up, and money was spent on the inauguration without anyone's knowledge?" He further told the MLA, "We do not need any drama."

MLA Rajesh Naik also weighed in, stating that such incidents keep happening repeatedly and need to be put to an end.

There must be an end to such traditional inaugurations for development projects. Inauguration is supposed to be after finishing the project. After all this is nothing but misuse of public money.

We need to find out who sent the invitation letter to Kamath and who arranged the stage program if Smart City officials and the MCC commissioner have not organised this. Because of this politics, DK is lagging behind in development.
