Udupi: Manipal College of Nursing celebrates 35th Annual Day with awards ceremony

Udupi, Feb 17: The Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, Manipal, celebrated its 35th awards and Annual Day at Dr T M A Pai Auditorium on February 14, recognising the exceptional achievements of students and faculty in academics, research, and extracurricular activities.

Dr T Dileep Kumar, president of the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, was the chief guest. He highlighted the increasing demand for specialised nursing professionals and praised Manipal’s global excellence in education.

Dr Kumar commended MCON’s competency-based programme and emphasised the MAHE-UNB dual degree with the University of New Brunswick, Canada, as a pioneering initiative in India.

Dr P Giridhar Kini, registrar of MAHE, served as the guest of honour and encouraged students to embrace challenges confidently. Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice chancellor of MAHE, lauded MCON’s significant contributions to nursing education, research, and clinical practice.

Awards and Recognitions: MCON honoured several students and faculty members for their outstanding contributions:

  • Shaina Tauro (BSc Nursing, 2020–2024): Best Outgoing Student Award
  • Melin Mathew: First Rank in BSc Nursing (Batch of 2024)
  • Sheela Shetty & Ranjani P: Good Teacher Awards
  • Dr Melita Sheilini: Most Accomplished Faculty Award
  • Dr Edlin Glane Mathias: Dr. T M A Pai Gold Medal for Outstanding Research Publication

Event Highlights:

  • Dr Judith A Noronha, dean of MCON, presented the Annual Report, showcasing MCON’s academic and research achievements.
  • Dr T Dileep Kumar was honoured for his 25 years of service as President of the Indian Nursing Council and his lasting contributions to the nursing profession.
  • The event concluded with a vibrant cultural programme, featuring performances by students and faculty, celebrating creativity and diversity.
