Udupi: Philanthropist John Baptist Cornelio passes away at 75

Udupi, Feb 19: Noted philanthropist John Baptist Cornelio (75) of Kallianpur passed away on February 18, 2025.

A generous benefactor, Cornelio had donated 1.01 acres of land to the Udupi diocese for the construction of Anugraha, the diocesan pastoral centre.

An entrepreneur abroad, he provided job opportunities to many through his firm.

He was known for his unwavering support for the needy, always extending a helping hand to those in distress.

The bishop of Udupi diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, along with monsignor Ferdinand Gonsalves, chancellor Dr Roshan D'Souza, and public relations officer Denis D'Sa, has extended condolences to the bereaved family and expressed appreciation for John Baptist (Robert) Cornelio’s legacy of kindness and community service.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 23, at 4 pm at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur. The community is invited to join in honoring his life and contributions.

    A rarest of rare human being who worked very hard and fought every difficulties of life but never forgotten to give back to the society in every possible way. His contribution to the church, schools, colleges and many more institutions are so much huge beyond 1 acre of land he donated to Pastoral center highlighted here. He was a very silent warrior did everything to his best to give back to the people in every ways possible. He is our role model and we Cornelio families worldwide will always miss him.
