Dubai, Feb 21: As part of its silver jubilee celebrations, Karaval Milan, the unified voice of 22 parishes along the coastline under the jurisdiction of Kallianpur and Kundapur deaneries of Udupi diocese, organized a men’s volleyball and throwball tournament for both men and women.
Weekends and holidays are especially valuable for Mangaloreans living in Gulf countries, and they make the most of them by spending quality time with family and friends. Karaval Milan chose this occasion to host an open throwball and volleyball tournament, inviting teams from across the UAE to compete at Al Manara Indoor Sports Hall, Jumeirah, on February 16. A large crowd gathered to witness top teams battle for top honors in thrilling, nail-biting matches.
A total of 14 volleyball teams, 8 men’s throwball teams, and 8 women’s throwball teams from Karnataka-based clubs in the UAE participated, delivering tough competition for the coveted trophies. In the end, ELL Properties emerged as champions in men’s volleyball, KCO Abu Dhabi secured the title in women’s throwball, and Coastal Friends clinched victory in men’s throwball. As a special attraction, two top teams with a contingent of 25 players from Bengaluru flew to Dubai to participate in the prestigious sports event.
Grand inaugural ceremony
The inaugural ceremony was held in the morning to commemorate the silver jubilee celebrations of Karaval Milan. The event was inaugurated by chief guest Girish Pant, a well-known social worker in the Middle East and a Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee honored by the president of India. He congratulated Karaval Milan for organizing the event and extended his best wishes to the participating teams, encouraging them to compete in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
A sumptuous breakfast, lunch, and high tea were arranged by Karaval Milan for all participants.
Exciting conclusion and prize distribution
The concluding ceremony was held in the evening, where prominent personality Leonid Sequeira distributed prizes to all winners and runners-up across the three game categories.
