New Delhi, Feb 21: The Indian government expressed deep sorrow over the recent death of a Nepalese student at KIIT, a private engineering college in Odisha, and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all international students in the country.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the ministry has been in "constant touch" with the Odisha government and KIIT authorities. He also confirmed ongoing coordination with Nepalese officials to address concerns surrounding the incident.

Odisha Police have arrested 11 individuals so far, including an engineering student charged with abetting the 20-year-old student’s suicide. Five more staff members were taken into custody on Thursday for allegedly assaulting Nepalese students as they vacated their hostel following the college’s orders.

The incident has triggered protests from Nepalese students demanding justice, while authorities have assured stringent action against those responsible.
