Kerala needs Modi-style governance for progress: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 22: With the Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS)-2025 set to commence in Kochi, BJP leader and former union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized the necessity for Kerala to adopt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s model of governance for economic progress.

Chandrasekhar highlighted the state's untapped investment potential, stating that Kerala must rise above political divisions and implement efficient governance to attract investors. He criticized the ruling CPI(M)-led Left government and the Congress-led opposition for reducing investment summits to political spectacles rather than engines of economic growth.

"Despite hosting around ten such events since 2011, the results have been minimal, with new malls being the only tangible outcome. There has been no significant job creation, pushing Kerala’s youth to seek employment elsewhere," he remarked.

He further blamed the state's economic decline on policy failures, corruption, and disruptive protests. "Mismanagement by successive governments, along with financial instability, has left Kerala in crisis. The situation is similar in Congress-ruled states like Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka," said Chandrasekhar, who recently contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Thiruvananthapuram against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

Meanwhile, leader of opposition VD Satheesan, addressing the IKGS-2025 inauguration, assured full support from the opposition in transforming Kerala into an investment-friendly state. "For the past four years, we have refrained from conducting hartals, fostering a new political culture," Satheesan said.

Taking a dig at the ruling CPI(M), Satheesan urged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to uphold the same cooperative stance when in opposition.
