Silver jubilee celebration of Rosario unit of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh held

Mangaluru, Feb 22: The Rosario unit of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh celebrated its silver jubilee on February 16, at Rosario Cathedral.

The day began with a thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration led by Fr Stany Tauro, founder of the Rosario unit, accompanied by Fr John Vas and Fr Alfred Pinto. In the evening, the formal programs commenced with a welcome dance by parish children and a prayer song by Rosario unit office bearers.

The guests on the dais included Fr Stany Tauro, Fr Alfred Pinto, Philip J Pereira, Fr John Vas, Walter Nandalike, Anil Lobo, Alwin D'Souza, Ida Furtado, Abdul Lateef, Hilary Lobo, William D'Souza, Jane Rosario, and convener Shahila D'Almeida.

In his welcome address, Philip J Pereira said that 300 members of the Rosario unit work together like the roots and fruits of a strong tree. All the guests on the dais were felicitated with a bouquet and memento.

Three achievers were honoured for their contributions to music, sports, and education namely Rishel Melba Crasta (Singer), Rishel Monteiro (Wrestling/Weightlifting) and Dafney M D'Souza (Education).

As part of its service initiatives, the unit contributed Rs 50,000 to a non-Catholic family to help complete their house, Rs 10,000 to the Kulur unit of Catholic Sabha for their ‘Home for the Homeless’ project, and Rs 25,000 to the Fr Cyprian Coelho Education Fund.

A picturesque PowerPoint presentation was a highlight of the celebration, showcasing 25 years of history, meticulously compiled by new member Vishal Lobo and his team. Past presidents and secretaries were felicitated for their relentless service over the last 25 years, and the contributions of all office bearers were acknowledged.

As many as 28 young members were inducted into the Rosario unit of Catholic Sabha. Yuva Hita Sanchalaki Dafney D'Souza presented the new members.

Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld, in his inspiring message, emphasized the importance of serving the needy and encouraged youth to engage in social service. He urged parents to communicate with their children and listen to their concerns. He also appreciated the courage of young children stepping forward to serve society under the Catholic Sabha banner and praised the Rosario Unit for bringing them together.

Fr Alfred Pinto stressed the need to support the marginalized and commended the Rosario Unit for being one of the most energetic wings in the parish. Fr John Vas highlighted the importance of helping one another overcome challenges. Anil Lobo, chairman of MCC Bank, shared his experience and advised not to fear anything if one is honest and trusts in God. Abdul Lateef, council member of MCC Corporation, Port Ward, lauded the Catholic Sabha for its need-based service and assured his full support in the future.

The vote of thanks was delivered by William D'Souza, followed by a jubilee song by choir master Antony D'Silva (ex-president), a dance performance by office bearers, and a short drama titled Kurdo Mog, written and directed by Steven Fernandes, Ruzai, with artistes from Udenti Kalakar, Ruzai.

The celebration was a grand success with the support of parish priest Fr Alfred Pinto, assistant parish priest Vinod Lobo, Fr Valerian Frank, Lancy Crasta, treasurer Rita D'Souza, Doreen D'Souza, Mable D'Souza, Salvador D'Souza, Tressy D'Souza, Ivan Pinto, Sebastian Noronha, Precialla Noronha, Marceline Pereira, Vincent D'Souza, Donald Furtado, Ashwin D'Almeida, Alwyn Ferrao, Shoby, Oscar Sequeira, Shanti D'Souza, Vinay Serrao, Dilon Furtado, Adlene Alvares, Sherin Rosario, Alister D'Almeida, Marcel, and all other members of Catholic Sabha.

Alwyn Tauro compered the programme, which concluded with a sumptuous dinner.
