MASOCON 2025: Landmark national conference on surgical oncology held in Manipal

Udupi, Feb 22: The Manipal Surgical Oncology Conference (MASOCON 2025) unfolded at the prestigious Dr TMA Pai Auditorium, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, from February 20 to 22. Hosted by the department of surgical oncology at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, the conference brought together over 150 delegates and esteemed faculty members from various oncology and surgical disciplines nationwide.

The inaugural session featured a distinguished lineup of experts, including Dr Shailesh V Shrikande, deputy director and head of cancer surgery at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai; Dr Naveen S Salins, associate dean of KMC Manipal & coordinator of MCCCC; Dr Shiran Shetty, deputy medical superintendent & professor of gastroenterology; Dr Sunil Navalgund, Bengaluru; Dr Naveena Kumar AN, head of the department of surgical oncology; and Dr Nawaz Usman, unit head of the department of surgical oncology at KMC Manipal.

Dr Shailesh V Shrikande emphasized the importance of such conferences in advancing surgical oncology practices, highlighting the continuous learning and research necessary for young surgeons to thrive. “Live surgery conferences like these provide valuable skills and knowledge, which are crucial for the development of young surgeons,” he noted.

The event also featured live surgery demonstrations by renowned experts, including Dr Shailesh V Shrikande, Dr Shalaka P Joshi, Dr Manisha Bhandare, Dr Shivakumar Thiagarajan from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and Dr Naveena Kumar AN from Kasturba Medical College. These sessions provided invaluable insights into the latest surgical techniques and innovations in the field.

In addition to the keynote live surgery sessions, the conference offered hands-on workshops and a poster & surgical video competition aimed at postgraduate students. These interactive opportunities provided participants with practical experience and a platform to showcase their research and surgical skills.

Dr Preethi S Shetty, Dr Akhil Palod, Dr Ananth Mathad, and Dr Karthik Velmurugan from the department of surgical oncology also contributed to the success of the event.
