Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 23: A 22-year-old BTech student from Mizoram, identified as Valentine, was fatally stabbed near his college in Thiruvananthapuram late Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 10:30 pm near Rajadhani Institute of Engineering & Technology, Nagaroor. Police have taken a batchmate, also from Mizoram, into custody in connection with the murder.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a personal altercation led to the attack. Both students, reportedly involved in frequent disputes, had previously been expelled from the college hostel.

Kerala has seen a surge in campus violence, with over 500 cases reported since 2016, including three student murders. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances behind Valentine’s death, raising fresh concerns over student safety and law enforcement in educational institutions.
