New Delhi, Feb 25: The BJP-led Delhi government on Tuesday tabled 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the assembly, alleging financial irregularities under the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration. The move sparked massive protests from AAP MLAs, leading to their expulsion from the house by speaker Vijender Gupta.
The session, which began with an address by lt governor VK Saxena, soon descended into chaos as AAP members protested against the reports. As tensions escalated, speaker Gupta ordered all 22 AAP MLAs, including leader of opposition and former Delhi CM Atishi, to be marshalled out, with several also suspended for the day.
Presenting the reports, Saxena stated that the new government was committed to "corruption-free governance" and addressing past administrative failures. He emphasized the need for better cooperation between the Delhi government, the centre, and other states to prevent further political deadlocks.
Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai welcomed the reports but accused the BJP of political vendetta. "Their lies will be exposed. They removed Babasaheb Ambedkar’s portrait and replaced it with Modiji’s photo this shows their real intentions," he said.
A key report under scrutiny highlights alleged irregularities in the renovation of the Chief Minister’s residence at 6, Flag Staff Road. The audit revealed that the project cost surged from Rs 7.61 cr in 2020 to Rs 33.66 cr by 2022—an increase of 342%. BJP leaders, including Satish Upadhyay, have vowed accountability, alleging corruption in multiple sectors, including transport, health, and the Jal Board.
The findings have reignited political tensions, with both BJP and Congress accusing former CM Arvind Kejriwal of misusing public funds.
