Udupi, Feb 27: Udupi district Karnataka Pradesh Krishika Samaj demanded for allocation of funds for coastal agriculture and approved the establishment of an agricultural college at Brahmavar Agriculture centre in current year’s state budget.

Ashok Kumar Kodgi, president of Udupi district Karnataka Pradesh Krishika Samaj, addressing the media in the press meet held on February 27, emphasized that their primary demand is to upgrade the Brahmavar Agricultural Science Center into a full-fledged agricultural college.

“The government must allocate funds for agriculture in this year’s budget and issue ‘Kumki’ and ‘cashewnut lease’ permits to farmers. The loan limit for farmers should be increased from the current amount of Rs 3 lacs to Rs 5 lacs at an interest rate of zero percent.”

Concerns about crop protection from wildlife attacks and demand for construction of solar systems with 90 percent financial assistance were raised. They urged the chief minister to approve the proposal and demanded the creation of a centre where farmer’s children could learn about local agricultural methods in a scientific manner.

The press meet was attended by state committee member Pradeep Hebbar, and president of Brahmavar Taluk Krishika Samaj Vaikunta Herle.
