UEFA bans referee David Coote until 2026 over ‘White Powder’ scandal

Daijiworld Media Network - London

London, Feb 28: UEFA has suspended English referee David Coote until June 30, 2026, after a video surfaced showing him allegedly snorting a ‘white powder’ while officiating at Euro 2024.

In a statement, UEFA cited violations of conduct, stating that Coote had brought the sport into disrepute.

Additionally, the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd (PGMOL) terminated his contract over derogatory remarks he allegedly made about ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and the club.

Coote is also under FA investigation regarding claims that he discussed issuing a yellow card before a 2019 Leeds vs. West Brom game.

Denying the allegations, Coote stated, “Whatever issues I may have had in my personal life, they have never affected my decision-making on the field.”
