Telangana tunnel collapse: Rescue operation for 8 trapped workers continues

Daijiworld Media Network - Nagarkurnool

Nagarkurnool, Feb 28: The massive rescue operation to save eight trapped workers inside a collapsed tunnel in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district entered its seventh day, with officials denying reports of bodies being found.

District Collector Badavath Santosh urged the media to refrain from spreading unverified news, emphasizing that reports about bodies being discovered were false and misleading.

The rescue teams, guided by findings from the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), are working with advanced technology, including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), plasma gas cutters, and special sensors to clear debris and locate survivors. Water is being pumped out, and a conveyor belt is set to aid in removing sludge.

Over 12 specialized teams, including the Army, NDRF, SDRF, Singareni Mines Rescue, Fire Services, HYDRAA, and South-Central Railway plasma cutters, are working round the clock. Oxygen supply is being maintained, and medical teams are on standby.

The collapse occurred on February 22 at the 14th km point of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, injuring two workers and trapping eight others, including engineers and machine operators from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
