Ruben Amorim prepares for tough calls as Manchester united overhaul looms

Manchester, Mar 2: Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is bracing for a summer of tough decisions as he looks to rebuild the struggling club. With United languishing in 14th place, Amorim has been tasked with offloading several players to raise funds for the massive changes he envisions at Old Trafford.

Despite the club's on-field struggles and cost-cutting measures implemented by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Amorim remains optimistic, claiming he sees a clear path to recovery. The Portuguese coach, known for his honesty-first approach, insists that exit conversations with players will not be difficult, as they are part of football’s natural cycle.

“We still have a lot of games to play, but it’s clear that some players will have to move on,” Amorim admitted. “If you explain things properly, players understand. When you are honest, even if it’s hard at first, they accept it.”

While United are on course for their worst-ever Premier League finish, Amorim remains confident in the club’s long-term vision. However, he acknowledges that results must follow. “The board is making difficult but necessary changes. But ultimately, winning games is what builds confidence,” he said ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup last-16 clash with Fulham.

Meanwhile, Amorim praised Harry Maguire for his recent resurgence, tipping the defender for an England recall under new boss Thomas Tuchel. Maguire, who last played for the national team in September, has been a rare bright spot in United’s season, scoring key goals against Leicester and Ipswich.

“I’d be really happy for him. He’s more of a leader now and deserves a place in the national team,” Amorim said.

With United’s future hanging in the balance, the coming months could prove pivotal in shaping Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford.
