Patna, Mar 4: A major railway disaster was narrowly averted in Bihar’s Motihari after the alert driver of the Mithila Express managed to stop the train just in time, preventing a potential derailment.
The incident occurred near the Raxaul Canal railway crossing when a bike rider, attempting to cross the tracks illegally, got stuck. As the Howrah-Raxaul Mithila Express approached, the rider failed to remove the vehicle and abandoned it on the tracks, despite repeated horn warnings from the train.

Sensing the imminent danger, the train driver applied emergency brakes, managing to stop the train after dragging the bike a short distance. With the assistance of local residents, the bike was removed, and the driver promptly informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) before resuming the journey towards Raxaul Junction.
An RPF official stated that despite repeated warnings, locals continue to use unauthorized crossings, posing a serious risk to railway safety. Officials have once again urged people to refrain from such dangerous practices to prevent accidents.
Railway authorities and passengers praised the quick reflexes of the driver, whose decisive action averted a catastrophe. The railway department has also urged local law enforcement to take stringent measures to curb unauthorized crossings.
Notably, a similar incident was reported on February 28 in Nalanda district, where a Bolero SUV got stuck on the tracks at an illegal railway crossing near Langdi Vigha village. The Danapur-Rajgir passenger train, approaching at high speed, collided with the abandoned vehicle, disrupting rail traffic. Fortunately, the occupants managed to escape unhurt before the impact.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of adhering to railway safety regulations to prevent such life-threatening situations.
