Udupi, Mar 4: Uchhangi Brahmakalashabhisheka and Ashwamedha Sookthayaga were performed at Kaup Sri Hosa Marigudi Temple on March 4.
In assistance of Kalya Vedamoorthi Srinivas Tantri Uchhangi Brahmakalshabhisheka and Ashwamedha Sookthayaga were performed on the 8th day. Large number of devotees participated in the Brahmakalashabhisheka of Uchhangi Devi. The ritual was performed with great pomp, and the temple was decorated with flowers.
In the Ashwamedha Sookthayaga nine white horses were brought for the worship, decorated with flowers, smeared with royal saffron and served with prasadam.
Shri Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade present on the occasion said, “Mariamma Temple brought has fame to Kaup. The word Kaup is derived from the tulu word ‘kapule’, which means to protect. Kaup Mariamma protects Kaup and the whole world from evil spirits. Mathangi is a fierce deity, she will punish for wrong doings. I was mesmerized by the wood works here. Each work is made differently. When you do any work, if you think of it as ours, the fruit will be sweet. This is my first visit to Mariamma Temple. Like how devotees washed their sin in holy water, people visit this temple and pray for blessings. I wish for this temple to shine bright and Mariamma’s blessing on all the devotees.”
