Bantwal, March 4: A middle-aged man from Bengaluru attempted suicide by jumping into the Nethravathi River at Panemangalore on Tuesday morning. In a heroic act, a local Muslim youth from Goonidabali selflessly rushed to his rescue and brought him safely to the shore.

The individual has been identified as Shankarayya (50), a Bengaluru resident, who was reportedly distressed due to personal and family issues. Overwhelmed by these problems, he travelled directly from Bengaluru and jumped into the Nethravathi River from the new bridge at Panemangalore in an attempt to end his life.

Noticing the man struggling in the water, Siddique, a resident of M K Road in Goonidabali, immediately sprang into action. Despite observing a fast, he jumped into the river without hesitation and used a tube to bring the drowning man to safety, ultimately saving his life.

Following the rescue, Shankarayya was handed over to Bantwal Town Police, who are investigating the incident.
