Bengaluru, March 4: Senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily clarified on Tuesday that his previous statement regarding Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar becoming the Chief Minister had been misinterpreted, asserting that he never suggested replacing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Moily's clarification comes after his remark, "No one can stop Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar from becoming the Chief Minister," caused a stir within the party.

Speaking to the media, the former chief minister said, "No one should create confusion. It is wrong to make comments either in favour of CM Siddaramaiah or Deputy CM Shivakumar."

Moily praised Shivakumar for his work and stated that he deserved to become the Chief Minister, but firmly clarified, "I have not said anything about replacing Siddaramaiah."

He also added, "Changing the CM without any discussion and consultation is wrong. I am committed to the democratic process. No one in the state or in Delhi has my experience. I am not part of the power-sharing discussions between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar and will not comment on it."

Moily went on to emphasise that if Siddaramaiah were to be replaced, it would require the AICC leaders to take into account the opinions of Congress workers and MLAs. "In my case also, it happened. The central leaders had a different choice. In 1980, though the MLAs were on my side, the central leadership chose a different candidate for the post," Moily recalled.

However, Moily became chief minister in 1992 when 90% of the MLAs supported his candidacy.

During a recent party function in Udupi, Moily had said that no one could stop Shivakumar from becoming Chief Minister, and he added, "I was the one who gave Shivakumar the party ticket to contest his first MLA election. He has grown into a successful political leader, and it brings me great joy."

There is absolutely no reason for Sidda to step down or replaced. He is doing really fantastic job and putting the incompetent opposition party in its place. Just because opposition is screaming in the streets for bogus corruption claims and sluggish economic growth is no ground for him to resign. In fact no court has proved any corruption against Sidda and economy is doing No.1 in whole of India far better than BJP ruled states and people are very happy with his rule . Then why should he step down. On the other hand DKS is cooperating very well with Sidda and has no desire to be the CM as portrayed by BJP’s propaganda machinery. BJP is creating such a deafening noise to make people uncomfortable to live and yield to BJP’s dirty tricks and rise against Sidda. This is how BJP gets its job done.
