New Delhi, Mar 5: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech during a post-budget webinar, emphasizing the government's commitment to driving India’s development through strategic investments in its people, economy, and innovation.

Modi outlined that the foundation of investment in people is built on three essential pillars: education, skills, and healthcare.

"India's education system is undergoing a major transformation after decades of stagnation. Initiatives like the National Education Policy (NEP), the expansion of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and the integration of technology—such as AI and digital textbooks—are reshaping the landscape. Today, learning materials are available in 22 Indian languages," he shared, highlighting the government’s efforts to modernize the education sector.

He added that the education system is now aligned with the demands of the 21st century.

Referring to skills development, Modi noted that since 2014, 30 million youth have received training. Furthermore, he announced plans to upgrade 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and establish five Centers of Excellence.

"The focus is on equipping youth with skills that meet industry needs. Our aim is to ensure that Indian youth are prepared to compete globally. Educational institutions and industries must collaborate to bridge gaps in skills and requirements. We have launched the PM Internship Scheme to provide fresh opportunities for youth," Modi emphasized.

Turning to the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister mentioned that India is poised to significantly expand its medical education capacity. "The government will add 75,000 medical seats over the next five years, starting with 10,000 seats this year," Modi said. He also touched on the expansion of telemedicine services and the creation of day-care cancer centers, all part of a broader effort to enhance healthcare accessibility and infrastructure for all citizens, ensuring it reaches the most remote areas.
