Raipur, Mar 9: A tragic accident in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district claimed the lives of two women and left 35 others injured when a pick-up truck carrying them to a post-wedding function lost control and overturned near Palani Pat. The vehicle, reportedly moving at high speed, veered off the road and fell 10 feet into a field, triggering chaos and grief.
The deceased, identified as Urvashi Sahu and Mukhin Sahu, succumbed to their injuries at a government hospital. While their exact ages remain unconfirmed, reports suggest that Urvashi was around 14 years old. An eight-year-old girl is among the critically injured, with several others requiring urgent medical attention. Five victims have been reported to be in serious condition and have been referred to Raipur for advanced treatment.
The victims, all members of a Sahu family from Singhanpuri village, were traveling in two pick-up trucks en route to Sahaspur-Lohara for a marriage-related function known as "Chouthiya." One of the trucks, carrying 40 women, lost balance and overturned, leading to widespread panic.
Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted authorities. Ambulances and rescue teams were deployed swiftly, transporting the injured to the district hospital in Kawardha. Witnesses stated that the vehicle was moving at an unsafe speed, possibly contributing to the accident.
Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, upon learning of the incident, instructed the district administration to ensure immediate relief efforts. Government and private ambulances were mobilized to assist in transporting the injured. The administration has assured that all possible medical aid is being provided, with critically injured patients admitted to private hospitals as well.
Pandaria MLA Bhavna Bohra visited the hospital, meeting the injured and their families. She directed doctors and officials to extend full support and later expressed her condolences via social media. In her statement, she assured that the health department was providing the best possible treatment and wished for the swift recovery of all those affected.
The families of the deceased remain inconsolable as the community mourns this devastating accident. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the crash, with initial reports pointing to reckless driving and overloading as potential factors.
