New Delhi, Mar 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited AIIMS Delhi on Sunday to check on the health of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and wished him a speedy recovery.

Dhankhar, 73, was admitted to the hospital in the early hours of Sunday after experiencing uneasiness and chest pain. He was taken to AIIMS around 2 a.m. and admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) under the supervision of Dr. Rajiv Narang, Head of the Department of Cardiology.

Providing an update on social media, Modi posted, “Went to AIIMS and enquired about the health of Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji. I pray for his good health and speedy recovery.”

Doctors confirmed that the Vice President’s condition is stable, and he remains under observation. Reports indicate that he underwent a successful stent implantation, and a medical team continues to monitor his progress.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda also visited AIIMS to check on Dhankhar's health, while Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took to social media to extend their prayers for his recovery. Birla wrote, "Received the news of Honourable Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar ji being unwell. I pray to God for his better health and speedy recovery." Chouhan similarly expressed his wishes, invoking Baba Mahakal for Dhankhar’s swift return to full health.

The Vice President had recently been on an official visit to Mumbai, where he served as the chief guest at the annual day function of K.P.B. Hinduja College of Commerce. During his address, he called for a national debate on the shift from democracy to "emotion-driven policies and debates," warning that such trends could undermine good governance.

On March 5, while addressing students at the convocation ceremony of Jan Nayak Chaudhary Devi Lal Vidyapeeth in Haryana's Sirsa, Dhankhar emphasized the importance of prioritizing national interest above all else. He urged students not to fear failure, calling it a myth that should not deter them from striving for excellence.

Having assumed office as India’s 14th Vice President on August 11, 2022, Dhankhar has had a distinguished political career. Born on July 18, 1951, in Kalibanga, Rajasthan, he previously served as the Governor of West Bengal and was a Member of Parliament representing Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu constituency in the 9th Lok Sabha. His contributions to Indian politics span decades, and his leadership continues to play a crucial role in shaping national discourse.
