Dubai, Jan 15: Vokkaligara Sangha UAE have geared up to celebrate Makara Sankranthi Festival on Friday the 20th January, 2012 at Fortune Peal Hotel, Naif Road, Dubai.  On this occassion the Founder President  Ravish Gowda wished everyone a very  happy Sankranthi.
 
As the earth starts its northward part of the rotation it brings the promise of a harvest of abundance and happiness.  Sankranti, the harvest festival is approaching and it’s time for getting together to celebrate it with your loved ones. Vokkaligara Sangha UAE invites all Kannadigas in the UAE to join in the festivities. It would be better if everybody attends the event in Indian traditional attire as per the organiser.  The programme will begin with the prayers of thanks and gratitude to the Sun for a good harvest, followed by a Cookery Competition for couples. The competition invites entries of festival related traditional food (Non-veg not allowed). Exciting prizes are being arranged to give away to the winners.

The cookery competition is followed by a Talent Show for kids up to the age of 15 years. Kids are requested to get ready to show your talent.  There will be a prize for the best traditionally dressed couple is the show topper.

The programme is all about having lots and lots of fun with your entire family and the organisers have assured of complete entertainment.

Rules and Regulations:
 
Cookery Competition for Couples: All married Kannadiga couples
• Participants should bring their own home-made food items/ingredients including the vessels and decorations.
• Only pre-cooked dishes are allowed and no gas/fire/microwave/heater are allowed inside the hall.
• Participants should report to the venue by 3:00 pm
• The participants will present their dishes between 4:15 pm to 5:00 pm
• Late entries will not be given extra time.
• Time limit to present the dishes is 45 minutes
• Couples should be present at the time of presentation.
• Recipe should be displayed.
• 3 prizes with complimentary gifts to be won.
• Criteria for judgment are relevance to Sankranti festival, presentation, aroma and taste.
• Judges' decision is final and binding.
• NOTE: Non-veg dishes will not be entertained.
 
Talent Show for Children

Open to all children up to 15 years of age. Children can show their talent in any field for e.g.: singing, dance, individual talents, fancy dress, magic show, musical instruments etc.
 
Rules and Regulations

• Participants should bring their own makeup, dress, props and materials needed by them.
• Participants should report to the hall by 4:00 pm.
• Time limit allowed for each entry is 4+1 minutes.
• There are 5 prizes to be won.
• All Indian languages are allowed, Kannada will be encouraged.
• Dangerous acts, and props (like fire, sharp objects) will not be allowed.
• No religious subjects to be depicted.
• Judges' decision is final and binding.
