Hassan, March 9: JD(S) MLC and grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, Suraj Revanna, assured on Saturday that his brother, former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, would be released from prison within the next month. Additionally, Suraj predicted the collapse of the Congress-led Karnataka government within the next four months.

Suraj Revanna made these statements while addressing a gathering at a cricket tournament in Chakenahallikatte village, near Holenarasipur town in Hassan district.

He declared, “Prajwal Revanna will come out of jail in another month. Don’t worry. Let us all welcome him back. The world has not ended yet. I know how to pursue politics.”

Suraj also criticised the current Congress government, asserting, “I will support all tournaments and programmes organised by you. The youth must unite and support one leader. In another four months, the government will change. What will become of those who have aligned themselves with them? I am asking you a technical question. If the government changes in the next four to five months, will they come and take our slogans? They will come, raise our slogans, and plead with us. This has been the story so far.”

He emphasised that the people and the village should benefit from such changes. “I have been responding positively to you, and I will continue to do so in the future as well,” Suraj added.

Suraj also took a swipe at those who do not contribute but instead appear in the villages for show. “Every day, we will spend time with you, participating in events such as marriages and others. Earlier, my father Revanna Sahib had built roads and community halls. Now, the trend in every village is temple renovation and new temple constructions. The youth must consider who is the best leader and who should be kept at a distance. Why have you forgotten those of us who have made significant contributions to the community?” Suraj questioned.

Prajwal Revanna is currently incarcerated in Bengaluru Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara. He was arrested at the Bengaluru International Airport on May 30, 2024, after returning from Germany. His arrest came following a public appeal by his grandfather, H.D. Deve Gowda, and his uncle, H.D. Kumaraswamy, urging him to face authorities. Prajwal's father, JD(S) legislator H.D. Revanna, is also jailed. Prajwal's mother, Bhavani Revanna, is out on bail in connection with the kidnap and rape case related to the sex video scam. Suraj Revanna, who was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting male party workers, is also out on bail.

The prosecution has levelled serious charges against Prajwal Revanna, including Sections 354(A), 354(B), 354(C), 376(2)(N), 376(2)(K), 506, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 66(E) of the IT Act. These charges relate to sexual harassment, assault, rape, intimidation, and the illegal recording of the incident.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed a charge sheet of 1,691 pages in the Special Court for MLAs/MPs, outlining the victim’s assault at gunpoint and the subsequent repeated sexual assaults, with threats to release the video to the public.
