Bengaluru, Mar 10: With temperatures soaring across Karnataka, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a much-awaited relief in the form of pre-monsoon showers.

Light rainfall is expected in parts of South Karnataka and the coastal belt on March 11 and 12, bringing temporary respite from the sweltering heat.

Weather expert C S Patil confirmed that a circulation over the Bay of Bengal is influencing the region’s weather. As a result, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Mandya, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi are likely to witness light showers over the next two days. This marks the official onset of the pre-monsoon season in Karnataka, much to the relief of residents grappling with rising mercury levels.

While South Karnataka and coastal regions may experience mild relief, North Karnataka is set to endure an extended dry spell.

IMD forecasts indicate that areas including Kalaburagi, Dharwad, Gadag, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, and Koppal will continue to sizzle under high temperatures, with no immediate signs of rainfall. Kalaburagi is expected to record a maximum temperature of 39°C, while other districts may hover around 37-38°C.

With temperatures on the rise, health experts and officials have urged the public to take necessary precautions. Officials have advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun, and follow heat safety guidelines.

According to IMD, this summer is expected to be warmer than usual, with dry winds intensifying over the coming months. Citizens have been urged to take proactive steps to safeguard their health as fluctuating weather conditions may lead to increased risks of heat-related illnesses.
