Aizawl, Mar 13: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to formally shift the Assam Rifles complex in Aizawl to Zokhawsang on March 15, marking a significant development in the long-standing demand for the relocation of the paramilitary force’s base.

The move comes after years of negotiations between the central government and the Mizoram administration. The shifting of the complex from the heart of Aizawl to Zokhawsang, located around 15 km away, is expected to ease congestion and address public concerns regarding security and urban planning.

Officials confirmed that the Home Minister will preside over the ceremony, highlighting the government's commitment to addressing local aspirations while ensuring the operational efficiency of Assam Rifles in the region.

The Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary force, has played a crucial role in maintaining security in the Northeast. The relocation is expected to strengthen the relationship between the force and the people of Mizoram.
