Bhopal, Mar 13: A horrifying incident in Rewa town has triggered a police investigation after a stray dog was spotted carrying the lifeless body of a newborn in its jaws. The authorities have focused their probe on the Beehar river cremation site, a location where infants are often buried.
The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine crucial details about the infant, including the age and gender, as the lower part of the body was missing. Due to the Holi holiday, the examination may be delayed by two days. Officials have assured that the case will be thoroughly investigated, including the possibility of foeticide.

The shocking sight was caught on video on Tuesday night in Kabadi Mohalla, under the jurisdiction of Civil Line Police Station. The footage has since gone viral on social media. In response, investigators are reviewing CCTV recordings from the area and questioning nearby residents. Additionally, four private nursing homes within a 2-km radius have come under police scrutiny.
Authorities are also tracking the dog’s movements to establish where it may have retrieved the body. The remains have been sent to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Eyewitnesses reported that the dog appeared to be searching for a secluded spot to consume the body before being chased away by locals. It eventually abandoned the remains near Jai Stambh intersection and fled the scene.
This tragic event follows a series of similar incidents in Rewa. On February 20, the partially mauled body of a newborn girl was discovered in Kulaura village, with part of her leg missing. Five days later, another infant’s body was found near the new bus stand. In a separate case, a newborn girl's remains were attacked by dogs at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.
Investigations into these cases are ongoing, as authorities work to uncover the circumstances behind these distressing discoveries.
