Leopard found dead near Kinnigoli, raises concerns over wildlife presence

Mangaluru, Mar 17: A leopard was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Ulepadi, close to Kinnigoli, triggering concerns among locals.

The carcass was spotted on Sunday near Ulepadi Sanad, following which Ikkala Gram Panchayat member Rajesh Shetty immediately alerted the forest department. Forest officials and veterinary experts rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection.

A post-mortem was carried out, and officials are awaiting the final report to determine the exact cause of death. Preliminary assessments suggest that the leopard might have succumbed to illness or starvation. The carcass was cremated on the spot as per protocol.

There have been frequent leopard sightings in and around Kinnigoli, with several incidents of pet dogs falling prey to them. CCTV footage from multiple locations has captured leopards roaming in residential areas.

A few months ago, a leopard was spotted attempting to attack farmers in Elathur. However, the farmers managed to escape unharmed.
