New Delhi, Mar 18: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has called for an increase in wages and workdays under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), emphasizing the need to support rural livelihoods.
Speaking at a party meeting, Gandhi highlighted the rising cost of living and stressed that higher wages and extended workdays would provide much-needed relief to marginalized communities. She also criticized recent budgetary cuts to the scheme, urging the government to strengthen MGNREGA rather than weaken it.

The demand comes amid ongoing debates on rural employment policies, with opposition parties pushing for greater financial allocation to welfare schemes.
