Ranchi, Mar 18: Lt Colonel Diwakar Kumar, an Army officer, was found dead in the parking area of Ranchi’s Khelgaon Housing Society on Tuesday morning, police confirmed.

Authorities were alerted after residents discovered the body. A police team from Khelgaon station arrived at the scene and sent the remains for post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Suicide suspected, But other angles under investigation

Preliminary findings indicate the possibility of suicide. Family members revealed that Lt Colonel Kumar had been battling depression and was on medication. However, police are not ruling out other possibilities, including an accident or foul play.

“We are examining all aspects—whether it was suicide, an accident, or something else,” said Gajesh Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of Khelgaon police station.

Lt Colonel Kumar, originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, was reportedly posted at the Army office in Namkum, Ranchi. According to his family, he went for a walk on the terrace after dinner on Monday night. By morning, his lifeless body was found, prompting immediate alerts to his family and authorities.

Past controversy and internal inquiry

Between 2022 and 2024, Lt Colonel Kumar was on study leave, pursuing a Master’s degree at Ranchi University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Friends and classmates described him as a lively and friendly individual.

However, reports suggest that during this period, he became entangled in a controversy, leading the Army to launch an internal inquiry against him. The specifics of the matter remain undisclosed, and it is unclear if it had any link to his death.

News of the incident spread quickly, drawing a large crowd to the scene. Khelgaon Housing Society, one of Ranchi’s largest residential complexes, remains in shock as authorities continue their probe into the officer’s tragic demise.
