Udupi, Mar 18: Dr T M A Pai Hospital is introduced Medical Oncology (Cancer) services on every Thursday. Dr Sharada Mailankodi, associate professor, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, is available for consultation on weekly basis.

Medical Oncology services at Dr TMA Pai Hospital will include outpatient consultations every Thursday from 2.00 pm - 4.30 pm. Patients will be able to seek expert advice on a wide range of oncological conditions including breast and gynaecological malignancies, geriatric cancers, prostatic and genitourinary cancers, lung cancers, survivorship care and supportive care in cancer.

The newly introduced department will currently focus on systemic treatment planning for all malignancies considering the patient-related factors, monitoring and response assessment of patients on chemotherapy, maintenance chemotherapy/hormonal therapy, oral metronomic chemotherapy, follow-up of cancer survivors especially carcinoma breast, counselling on available treatment options for cancers, immunization of patients with cancer, multiple myeloma treatment and building awareness on common cancers and their treatment.

Dr Shashikiran Umakanth, the medical superintendent of Dr TMA Pai Hospital, Udupi expressed excitement about the new service, stating, "We are delighted to welcome Dr Sharada to our expert team with over 7 years of experience in breast and gynaecological cancers, geriatric cancers, lung cancer, prostate and genitourinary cancer, supportive care in cancer, survivorship care, her expertise will be invaluable this addition to our medical services reflects our commitment to provide the highest level of care to our community.
