Woman’s assault at Malpe harbour: KPCC spokesperson Veronica Cornelio condemns incident

Media Release

Udupi, Mar 19: In a shocking incident of inhumane behaviour, a woman was tied to a tree and assaulted in Malpe harbour, Udupi district, over allegations of fish theft. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson Veronica Cornelio has strongly condemned the incident.

She said, "According to the police, four individuals have already been arrested in connection with the case. Udupi Superintendent of Police confirmed the arrests and stated that strict action would be taken against those involved. However, the passive stance of the bystanders, who merely watched as the woman was subjected to brutality, has also drawn criticism.

"While the woman may have committed a mistake, physically assaulting her instead of handing her over to the authorities for proper investigation reflects a lack of basic human decency. The incident has brought shame to the conscious citizens of Udupi district.

"Our legal system does not permit anyone to take the law into their own hands under any circumstances. Law enforcement agencies exist to address such matters, and the citizens of the district must ensure that such incidents do not recur. The police must take immediate and strict action against all those responsible for this heinous act," Cornelio demanded in a press statement.
