Udupi: Counteraction - Now, Pejawar Mutt Swamiji to Fast over Paryaya Row

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Jan 16: The controversy surrounding the upcoming Paryaya at Sode Mutt is getting deeper each passing day in the run up to the event.

Puttige Mutt's Sri Sugunendra Swamiji, miffed over not being invited to the event, has already pledged to undertake a fast in protest from 9 am on Tuesday January 17, to 5 am the next day. Now, Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji has decided to counter the fast and said that he was hurt by the controversy and will not eat anything while Sri Sugunendra Swamiji is on fast.

Announcing the decision to fast, the Pejawar Swamiji said that he would begin his fast from Monday January 16 midnight and will go on till Wedneday January 18 noon.

He said that he was hurt by allegations by swamijis of other mutts that he had not intervened to solve the issue between Sri Vishwavallabhateertha of Sode Mutt and Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt. He clarified that he had done his utmost to broker peace between the two, and had asked Sode Mutt to invite Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji. "However, the final decision is left to the Mutts," he said.

Earlier, Sri Sugunendra Swamiji had said that Pejawar Swamiji had not shown enough interest in the matter, and that is why he was hurt.

"I feel that Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, senior-most Swamiji here, has not been showing the will power to ensure that the tradition of the Mutt is not given a go by. I understand that Pejavar Swamiji, Sri Samyamindra Acharya and Rajagopalacharya of Mantralaya, are in talks to tide over the problem. I have noticed that Pejavar Swamiji has not evinced total interest in the matter, nor has he held a firm and honest stand on the issue. If he makes up his mind, everything will fall in line. So, I have decided to undertake protest fast,” he had said.

    @Krishnaraj,Udupi
    Bharat sees whole world as one single family and our mantra is "Vasudaiva Kutumbakam" which is an integral part of Hindu philosophy.In Threta Yug Lord Hanuman crossed the seas to find out whereabout of Sita mata and helped Sri Ram for act of which Sri Ram,Janaki an Laxman made permanent place in Hanuman's heart.When it is so who are we ordinary people in this age to describe the crossing the seven seas by Puttige seer as wrong and disqualify him to be associated with Paryaya rituals,6698 a tradition set by the great seer Sri Vadirajaswamy in 14th century.I see some miracles during the last minute to set right every thing and things move in the right diretcion.

    it was puthige who broke the ageold practise. it was wrong to cross the seven seas and still be a pariyaya swami. I support sode's stance on the issue.

    Sode mutt is revered by lakhs of people because it occupies a unique place among asta mutts.Its founder Sri Vadraja swamy who lived for 120 years(1480-1601) was a great saint with miracles in uplifting his followers.Generaly the followers look at the swamijis with reverence for blessings/guidance.Here one can see swamijis themselves indulge in fueds with prejudices which makes/feel deciples to shame.The religious heads/swamijis usualy tend to be above prejudices/hatredness etc.,and present turmoil and confusion amongst swamijis of asta mutts is deplorable.May good sense prevail among all concerned and Paryaya 2012 conduct peacefully.

    while I support, Mr. Dinesh Poojary's comment, it is surprising while thousands even crores of people just follow and wait in hours to have a glimpse of these religious leaders in faith....but the way these Swamijis behave and act dramas like dirty politicians, matter of concern. The problem is politicians handling everything and swamijis trying to interfear in politics...
    We some time on week skips lunches/dinners for our own sake...is this be called FASTING... dear all, fasting is that when Muslims observe fasting during their month of Ramadan (sun rise to sun set wihtout of water for 30 days...) come on Swamijis be practical minded let us not to take ANNA HAJARE OR Baba Ramdev for granted, even their fasting also no meaning and become lkke fast time...

    The responsible people have to be pro-active and stop these things from happening in the first place. Going on fast is like post mortem. Its not of much use. These days everybody is fasting and it has lost its importance.

    If Swamiji's fight like this, then what will happen to the followers? Swamiji's are in god's service to people, sacrifice is above everything, this is too immature.

    Having breakfast in the morning before the FASTING and ending it by evening is not called FASTING...
    (especially when you know someone will come as mediator to convince you to end fasting)

    Many busy people do this sometimes if they don't get time for lunch :-). Can this be called a FASTING?
