Patna, Mar 20: A heated dispute over tap water between two nephews of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, took a tragic turn in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on Thursday, resulting in the death of one and leaving the other critically injured.
The violent clash unfolded around 9 a.m. in Parbatta village, where tensions between the two brothers, Vishwajeet Yadav and Jayjeet Yadav, escalated fatally. Police rushed to the scene upon receiving reports of gunfire and launched an immediate investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that Vishwajeet Yadav died on the spot, while his brother Jayjeet suffered critical injuries. The two were sons of Raghunandan Yadav, the brother-in-law of Minister Nityanand Rai.

According to Navgachiya SP Prerna Kumar, the siblings had a long-standing strained relationship that culminated in Thursday’s violent confrontation. The altercation intensified when Vishwajeet, in a fit of rage, retrieved a firearm from his house and attempted to shoot Jayjeet. However, Jayjeet managed to wrestle the gun away, triggering a fierce struggle. In the ensuing chaos, Jayjeet fired a fatal shot to Vishwajeet’s head.
Jayjeet, who sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach, was rushed by family members to a private hospital in Bhagalpur, where his condition remains critical. The tragedy also left Vishwajeet’s mother injured, as she was struck by a bullet in the hand during the altercation.
Authorities have registered an FIR at Parbatta police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have recovered Vishwajeet’s body and sent it for post-mortem at Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital. A police team has been deployed in the village to prevent any further escalation.
SP Prerna Kumar stated that eyewitness accounts are being recorded, and further insights into the incident are expected once Vishwajeet’s mother is stable enough to provide a statement.
The situation remains under close watch as authorities continue their investigation.
