Dubai Family Suicide: Wife Handcuffed to Foil New Attempt

Dubai, Jan 17 (Emirates 24 x 7): Dubai Police have handcuffed the sole survivor of family suicide incident as she remains in a hysterical condition.

Quoted by the Dubai-based 'Al Bayan' Arabic language newspaper, Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori, head of the Dubai criminal investigation department, said the wife is still in “hysterical” condition in the intensive care unit and had been handcuffed by police to prevent her from attempting a suicide again.

“The bodies of the husband, Rajesh, and his daughter are still at the forensic section and there is no permission yet to bury them as a final medical report has yet to be released,” he said.

Additionally, in another twist to the sad tale, investigators doubt that a dispute between an Indian man with his sponsor was the real motive behind his decision to commit suicide after killing his little daughter with the help of his wife.

A senior police officer said the wife, who slashed her veins but survived, had been briefly questioned in hospital but that she would be interrogated again once her condition improves.

“As for what the mother said about the reasons of the suicide, we doubt her statements…she might know other reasons for this heinous incident and we believe the reasons she had stated are weak and can‘t be trusted…we are now watching her in case she tries any move to end her life again.”

Mansoori said forensic experts established that the seven-year-old daughter was asleep when her parents allegedly smothered her with a pillow.

Final charges

According to police officials , the woman will be charged with attempted suicide, but it is up to the Public Prosecution to decide the final charges upon completing investigations.

The man left two suicide notes, one to his family here and back home, and the other to police, in which he explained the reasons behind his decision to kill himself and his family, police said.

According to UAE laws, attempting to commit suicide is a criminal offence that mandates a fine of up to Dh5,000 and/or six months imprisonment.

If proven that she had taken part in suffocating her daughter, the woman may also face charges of murder.

No signs of distress

In his suicide note, the man mentioned that he was having financial problems, and that he had problems with his former boss, who is also an Indian.

As reported earlier, Rijesh's brother Ribesh, who lives with his family in Sharjah, said that he did not spot any signs of distress and everything seemed to be fine.

"He [Rijesh] wrote that the former boss came to his house and threatened him, accusing him of cheating ... Rijesh denied cheating anyone and wrote that he is ending his life," Ribesh said.

Indian Consulate officials said on Monday they visited Sreesha, and that she is not in a position to speak. The consulate will be in touch with the relatives and will extend all support to the family, officials said.

When contacted, the former boss, P.N., said he met Rijesh on Friday night but denied having anything to do with his suicide. "The news came as a shock to me. He called me on Friday around 9.45pm and asked me to meet him to collect a cheque for Dh15,000 which he owed me," P.N. said.

"He gave me the cheque, that's all. There were no big issues," he said.

Is so sad that parents killed their innocent daughter because of their huge debt which they had. Anyway the father is gone with their daughter. May their soul rest in eternal peace. Now the mother since she survived the suicide attempt should be dealt severely as per UAE law and the law in UAE is very tough and she has to face it. Right now since she is alive and recovering in the ICU she has two cases, one for murdering the child and another for trying to commit suicide. The mother who gave birth to that child had no feelings at all.

Very well said Roshan. I feel, even if you feel that suicide is the last option for you, which it should not be, you can do whatever with your life but see that you don't force your decision on your family, specially on small kids, let them live, what if you have given them life, nobody has a right to take anyone's life, altough the mother said that she joined her husband in killing her child, I refuse to believe that she would be that cruel to do the act, I'm sure there is a better reason, hope the truth comes out and the women is given help cause I can very well imagine what punishment she is going through by just staying alive, knowing each moment that you were the cause behind the disaster. Let's pray that people who are in distress may seek help rather than take drastic measures such as these. Hope Dubai Government too plays a part in improving conditions of employees here.

    M.Bhat/Mumbai,

I read your comments and agree with you and its beautifully crafted and written. I request you to apply the same philosophy when a member of minority is beaten up or killed by your most loved BD/SRS and vice versa as life is beautiful and one can have only one life at a time. Dont practice double standards in your write ups.

Initial report says it is a suicide by father, suicide attempt by mother and murder of child by parents due to insult and debt. If everyone follows them for the same reason ,then 65% Indians will not be on earth ! Every day, every one is getting insulted one way or other in our daily life. There are so many incidents where IPS officers were slapped in public by our great Ministers.Even ex-CM had thrown laptop out of the room in the meeting.Ordinary MLA had smashed table in front of CM in the meeting recently. Ex CM of Karnataka was jailed and came out.He didn't commit suicide.

Why are people so judgemental? Wait until the truth is revealed. How sure are you that there was no foul play in this? Stop cursing the mother, maybe , she is also a victim who survived.Really unfortunate that an innocent child lost her precious life in the middle of whatever that happened.Hope the mother gets back to normalcy to say and prove the truth.May truth be known!

Life is beautiful. No matter what age, situation or anything else you are in preserve it and live it fully. Life has its ups and down. It's sad to know that there are people who are fighting for their lives and buying time as much as possible whilst there are people who are looking to end their life." strange... Firstly, suicide is irreversible and there is no chance to go back if you had made the wrong decision. Also, suicide is selfish and ineffective. Although one feel that they will end your problem, the effect on others will be devastating. one has to overcome situation deftyly. one problem may look bigger compared to others but in reality its nothing compared to more unfortunate ones. As the Arab proverb says “I was miserable because I had no shoes till I saw someone who had no feet”. It certainly takes courage to take one’s life, but it takes more courage to resist that easy solution and get on with your life, perhaps serving others less well-off.

Committing suicide is not a solution for anyone’s financial/family problems. We people should to have some debts, only because there is a meaning for life. We cannot live in this world without problems. We have to enjoy with facing both Happiness and Problems.
For ALL whoever having Financial, Family, from your Sponsor and any other problems, please face them in a patience without thinking something HARD. Everything will be solved slowly and don’t think for next day leave it for GOD. Live for the day and enjoy in your life.

There are numerous suicide cases in Dubai but only a few are reported and most of them not at all reported. Most of the people are not happy at their workplace. Suicide is happening every other day in labour camps due to exploitation, over worked/under paid criteria, financial problems and so on. I wonder why Indian labour goes to the middle east when India is much better for them in terms of family life, weather conditions, working atmosphere and also compensation. They even pay huge commissions to go to the gulf and take a long long time just to settle their loans eventually ending up in disaster.
