Udupi, Mar 23: The 15th Annual Day of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal was celebrated on March 22, at the institute premises.

His holiness Dr Swasti Shree Bhattaraka Charukeerthi Pandithacharyavarya Mahaswamiji of Shree Jain Math, Moodbidri, graced the occasion. As part of the celebration, His holiness planted a sandalwood sapling, symbolizing that engineering students should spread knowledge and positivity like the fragrance of sandalwood. In his address, he emphasized that God is the greatest engineer, followed by Guru, who understands and guides human emotions. He also highlighted that the Vedas contain vast engineering knowledge, covering fields from science to weaponry.

His holiness spoke about Bhakti as a unique technology connecting the Guru and disciples, stressing that devotion leads to true knowledge. He encouraged students to practice meditation, stating that many great scientists are emerging from spiritual backgrounds. Additionally, he advised students to maintain good health by eating well, as it is crucial for academic success.

The event was presided over by Paramapoojya Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji, president of Shri Sode Vadiraja Matha Education Trust (SSVMET), Udupi. In his presidential address, he urged students to seize opportunities and not regret missed chances. Through an inspiring story, he advised against blindly copying others but instead following their principles and dedication to build one's own identity. He also shared insights about his connection with Jain Math and Krishna Math.

The chief guest, Srinivasagopalan Rangarajan, chairman and managing director of Data Patterns (India) Pvt Ltd, motivated students to recognize the value of friendships and engage with faculty to explore new ideas. He remarked that today’s students are fortunate to have access to modern educational resources, which were not available in his time. He appreciated the institute for providing a conducive learning environment.

Rekha Murthy Rangarajan, director at Data Patterns (India) Pvt Ltd, was the guest of honor in her address, she shared her thoughts on engineering, emphasizing that the kitchen is also an engineering space where creativity, precision, and innovation come together in cooking. Just as in technical fields, design and efficiency are essential for functionality. She expressed her joy in seeing women leading in various domains, breaking barriers, and inspiring others. From homes to industries, women are making a significant impact, demonstrating their expertise, and driving transformation in both technical and creative fields.

The event was attended by distinguished guests, including P Srinivasa Tantry, president, SSVMET, Rathnakumar, Secretary, SSVMET, Harish Belman, Dr S G Gopalakrishna (Governing Council members) Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal, SMVITM, Dr Ganesh Aithal, vice principal, SMVITM, Anurag, president of the student council.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Rathnakumar, secretary, SSVMET. Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal, presented the Annual Report for 2024-25, highlighting institutional achievements and faculty and student accomplishments. The guests were introduced by Dr Shilpa Kamath, associate professor, ECE, Dr Raja Yateesh Yadav, HoD, Mechanical Engineering and Raghavendra G S, assistant professor (Sr), CSE

Dr Sudarshan Rao, dean (IQAC), Dr Raviprabha K, (SWO)announced the names of the students qualified for the Proficiency Awards and Scholarships, Best Outgoing Students Award, Best 2nd and 3rd year Students Award and Best Department Award. Pratham L Kamath, department of artificial intelligence and data science and Hithashree, department of artificial intelligence and Data science were awarded with best outgoing student awards.

The programme began with an invocation by Chitkala, a 3rd-year CSE student. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sachin Prabhu K, assistant professor (Sr), department of ECE. The event was professionally compered by Ananth Mohan Mallya, senior assistant professor, Mechanical Engineering, and Sowmya Bhat, ECE department.
