Bantwal, Mar 25: Residents of Veerakamba village have urged authorities to keep a close watch on rental houses in the area, raising their concerns during the village meeting.

The demand was made during the second-phase Grama Sabha of Veerakamba gram panchayat, held on Monday at the Veerakamba Maji Government Higher Primary School auditorium. Residents pointed out that some rental houses were contributing to poor sanitation in the village and that many tenants were being accommodated without proper verification. They insisted that landlords should collect appropriate documents from tenants and provide the details to the gram panchayat.

The villagers also pressed for the establishment of a health sub-centre on the designated land reserved for a health centre. Additionally, they demanded immediate boundary marking of gomala (government grazing land), the inauguration of the solid waste management unit, and strict action against those dumping waste along roadsides.

Officials from various government departments, including health, MESCOM, women and child development, education, forest, animal husbandry, and horticulture, provided department-wise information to the villagers.

Bantwal horticulture department assistant director Pradeep, who served as the Grama Sabha guide officer, offered necessary guidance and suggestions during the meeting.

Several grievances and demands were submitted by the villagers.

The event was presided over by gram panchayat president Lalita, with vice president Janardhan Poojary, gram panchayat members, and officials from various departments in attendance.

Health officials, ASHA workers, Anganwadi teachers, gram panchayat staff, and local residents also participated in the meeting.

Students of the Maji Government School rendered the Nada Geethe (state anthem), while panchayat development officer Pushpa M welcomed the gathering, and secretary Savitha delivered the vote of thanks.
