Mangaluru, Mar 25: Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna and Beltangady MLA Harish Poonja visited Mangaluru Jail on Tuesday and met the five individuals arrested in connection with the assault on a Dalit woman over alleged fish theft in Udupi.
The legislators interacted with the accused regarding the case. Speaking to reporters after the visit, Yashpal Suvarna alleged that the police department in the coastal districts was being used as a Congress party office.

"Injustice against hardworking people will not be tolerated. Women, like men, risk their lives and engage equally in the fishing profession. However, the way the police have handled this case is unacceptable. If they do not correct their behavior, they will face consequences," he warned.
"As an MLA and a fisherman, I stand with them. The Congress has no achievements to show in Udupi and Mangaluru, which is why they are using officials to file false cases. In the coming days, we will demonstrate the strength of our workers," he asserted.
