Ranchi, Mar 26: The Jharkhand Assembly on Tuesday witnessed massive uproar as opposition BJP members stormed into the Well of the House, demanding a discussion on the recent stone-pelting incident in Hazaribagh. The protest, which led to disruptions in the proceedings, saw BJP legislators raising slogans against the state government, alleging failure in maintaining law and order.

The incident occurred during the Mangla Julus procession as part of the Ram Navami celebrations in Hazaribagh. According to reports, a dispute broke out over the playing of certain songs during the procession, leading to clashes between two groups. This escalated into stone-pelting, triggering tensions in the area. However, timely intervention by the police helped bring the situation under control, and security was tightened to prevent further disturbances.

Leader of the Opposition, Babulal Marandi, criticized the Hemant Soren-led government, questioning why communal clashes often occur during Hindu festivals. “The administration’s failure to ensure peaceful celebrations is evident. Why do such incidents happen every year?” he asked, demanding stringent action against the miscreants.

Hazaribagh BJP MLA Pradip Prasad also joined the protest, holding a placard condemning the attack on devotees. The BJP has accused the ruling coalition of appeasement politics and alleged that repeated incidents of stone-pelting during religious processions indicate a breakdown of law and order in the state.

Responding to the opposition’s allegations, the ruling JMM-Congress alliance assured the House that strict action would be taken against those involved in the incident. The government emphasized that law enforcement agencies were closely monitoring the situation to maintain peace and harmony.

The Assembly proceedings remained disrupted for a significant duration, with the Speaker urging both sides to maintain decorum. However, with tensions running high, the issue is likely to remain a focal point of political debate in the coming days.
