Bengaluru, March 26: An FIR has been registered at Chandra Layout police station here against PSI P Kishore of Dharmasthala police station and three others on charges of dowry harassment and attempting to murder his wife.
The complaint was filed by Kishore’s wife, R Varsha, a resident of Manasa Nagar, Teachers' Colony, Nagarabhavi.
The case also names Kishore’s father Puttachannappa, mother Sarasvathamma, and brother P Chandan, all of whom are residents of Nelamangala, Bengaluru Rural district.

According to the police, Varsha alleged in her complaint that she had been repeatedly harassed for dowry and that Kishore had tried to strangle her to death.
Details of the complaint
In her complaint, Varsha explained that the marriage was arranged through a mediator, and both families agreed to the wedding. During the discussions, Kishore’s mother, Puttachannamma, and other family members demanded Rs 25 lac for wedding expenses.
Unable to afford this amount, Varsha’s family agreed to pay Rs 10 lac, which Kishore’s family accepted. The engagement took place on November 24, 2023, with an 18-gram gold ring gifted to Kishore.
Varsha’s complaint further mentions that shortly after the engagement, Kishore demanded a car, which she initially refused. However, her father intervened and agreed to provide one, eventually purchasing a car worth Rs 23 lac from a Hyundai showroom in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru.
The wedding was held on February 21, 2024, with Varsha's family spending Rs 60 lac on the ceremony. According to the complaint, Rs 10 lac in cash, 135 grams of gold jewellery for Kishore, 850 grams of gold jewellery for Varsha, and 3 kg of silver ornaments were given as part of the wedding.
Varsha claims that at the time of the marriage, Kishore was posted at the Mudigere police station, where he had no income. He reportedly sought a transfer and demanded Rs 10 lac from her father as a bribe to facilitate the move.
At that point, over Rs 1 crore had already been spent on the wedding. When Varsha questioned how her father could arrange the additional money, Kishore allegedly threatened to shoot her with his gun.
After his transfer to Dharmasthala, Kishore reportedly continued to make financial demands, including Rs 2 lac for buying furniture. When Varsha refused, the harassment reportedly escalated, with Kishore physically assaulting her with a rolling pin.
On the night of March 21, 2025, Varsha alleges that Kishore verbally abused her and assaulted her with his police belt from 9 pm to 1 am. She later sought medical treatment at KC General Hospital in Bengaluru.
Investigation underway
Following these allegations, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities are now looking into the claims made by Varsha and the actions of the accused.
