Mangaluru: Farewell for mentor Umesh J A, scholarship distribution held at St Aloysius ITI

Mangaluru, Mar 28: St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Mangaluru, organized a retirement programme for Umesh J A, junior training officer in electronics mechanic, in recognition of his 31 years of dedicated service. The event was held on March 28 at 10 a.m. in the college auditorium, alongside a scholarship distribution programme for deserving students.

Fr John D’Souza SJ, director of St Aloysius ITI, presided over the event. The chief guest for the occasion was Nazeer Ahmed, former general secretary of Jamiyyatul Falah - Dakshina Kannada & Udupi Districts and director of Ace IAS Academy. Also present were the retiring staff member Umesh J A and his family, principal Roshan D’Souza, training officers Noel Lobo and Wilson N, vice principal Alwyn Menezes, alumnus Rohan Monteiro, and programme convener Padmavathi.

The event commenced with a prayer song led by electronics mechanic students. Principal Roshan D’Souza welcomed the gathering, followed by heartfelt tributes from Preethi Sequeira, a first-year electronics mechanic student, and Mohammed Habil, a second-year student, who spoke about Umesh J A’s contributions to the institution.

Noel Lobo led the felicitation ceremony, after which Umesh J A expressed his gratitude and reflections on his tenure at the institution.

As part of the event, scholarships provided by the management were distributed to meritorious students to support their academic pursuits. The distribution was conducted by vice principal Alwyn Menezes.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Nazeer Ahmed highlighted the importance of gratitude towards institutions and educators. He emphasized, “Even in our institution, we provide scholarships to support students’ education. I am happy to witness your achievements. When you complete your studies and secure a job, contribute something back to your institution. Your teachers work hard for you, treating you like their own children, and expressing gratitude towards them is a mark of respect.”

In his presidential address, Fr John D’Souza SJ appreciated the contributions of the retiring staff member, stating, “Umesh J A has served the institution with dedication for 31 years. We thank you for your commitment and fruitful service. You are beginning a new chapter of life. May God grant you good health and happiness in your future endeavours. We have given scholarships to deserving students. Your parents always give you what you need without expecting anything in return. Once you have a job, develop the habit of giving back a little to the institution as a sign of respect, gratitude, and love.”

Padmavathi, convener of the programme, proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme was compered by Akvil, MMV second-year student.
