Udupi, Mar 28: A case of alleged kidnapping has been reported in Udupi, where Jeena Maril, a Christian woman from Kodavoor, has been accused of being abducted by Mohammed Akram from Karamballi. Her parents have filed a complaint at the Udupi town police station, alleging that Akram kidnapped their daughter.
According to reports, Jeena and Akram had been in a relationship for several years. Jeena, an engineering student studying in a college in Moodbidri, was reportedly planning to register her marriage with Akram. However, her parents, Merus Pusphalatha and Godwin, claim that Akram abducted her as an act of revenge.

Distressed over their daughter’s alleged abduction, Jeena’s parents have filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court, seeking her return. The couple, along with DySP Y Prabhu, appeared before the court, but the hearing was postponed. Meanwhile, Jeena and Akram have reportedly requested police protection, stating that they are getting married of their own free will.
The parents allege that Akram had been harassing their daughter for the past five years, even before she reached adulthood. They had previously filed a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case against him, but it was dismissed due to a lack of evidence of sexual harassment.
Further, they claim that Akram manipulated Jeena through social media, maintained continuous contact with her, and took inappropriate photos and videos. According to them, he threatened to release explicit images online if she did not comply with his demands.
Expressing concerns about Akram’s background, Jeena’s family alleges that he is associated with the ‘Garuda Gang’ and is addicted to drugs. They also claim that he has no stable job and insist that their daughter will not be sent with him under any circumstances.
When the parents approached the police, they were reportedly informed that both Jeena and Akram are legally adults, and therefore, no action could be taken. The police also showed them a video confirming that the couple was together and safe, after which the parents were sent back.
Jeena’s parents are demanding that she be presented before them at least once and have urged authorities to immediately arrest Akram. Meanwhile, the accused has reportedly applied for anticipatory bail.
