As the burglars were breaking the locks, the finance company’s siren went off, alerting the Konaje police, who rushed to the scene and arrested two accused individuals.

Three strangers who arrived by train last evening waited near Derlakatte until late at night, planning to commit the crime. Around 3 AM, as they attempted to break open the door of Muthoot Finance branch, which operates on the upper floor of a commercial building owned by H M Timbers at Derlakatte Junctionusing a drill machine, the alarm went off.

As they were breaking the locks to execute the heist, the security alarm triggered, sending an alert to the finance company's control room. The senior officials of Muthoot Finance immediately informed the police. At that time, Konaje police, who were patrolling near K S Hegde Hospital, rushed to the scene.

By the time the siren went off, local residents too had gathered near the premises. Two accused, identified as Murali from Kanhangad and Harshad from Kasargod, were locked inside the building and were later apprehended by the Konaje police with the help of public. Police also seized a drilling machine used for the crime. Meanwhile, a third accused, Abdul Latif from Kasargod, managed to escape.

Due to the advanced security measures installed at the Muthoot Finance branch in Derlakatte, the attempted robbery was thwarted. ACP Dhanya Nayak and a team led by Konaje inspector Rajendra visited the crime scene and conducted an investigation.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the two arrested individuals were involved in a bank robbery at a Vijaya Bank branch in Kerala.
