Mangaluru: NHAI to undertake repairs on old Nethravathi bridge, alternative routes advised

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 30: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will carry out major repair work on the old Nethravathi bridge, which connects Talapady to Mangaluru City on National Highway 66, from April 1 to April 30. The work is expected to cause significant traffic congestion in the area.

During this period, all vehicular movement will be diverted onto the parallel bridge, which usually carries traffic from Mangaluru City towards Talapady. As a result, increased congestion is anticipated on the highway from Pumpwell to Thokkottu.

The Mangaluru city police have urged motorists and the general public to drive cautiously on this stretch and to avoid the route during peak hours to prevent accidents and delays.

Alternative routes suggested

To ease traffic congestion, commuters have been advised to take alternative routes:

  • Local commuters traveling from Mudipu, Konaje, and Deralakatte towards Mangaluru City can use the Konaje-Harekala (bridge)-Adyar route.
  • Two-wheelers and light vehicles traveling from Mangaluru towards Konaje, Mudipu, and Deralakatte can take the Adyar-Harekala (bridge) route.
  • Vehicles from Talapady and Ullal heading towards Bengaluru, Uppinangady, Puttur, and Sullia should turn right at Thokkottu and travel via Mudipu-Boliyar-Melkar.
  • Vehicles traveling from BC Road towards Talapady and Kerala can take the Melkar-Mudipu-Thokkottu route.

The Mangaluru city police have requested the public to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays and ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the repair period.

If you follow the traffic rules it's ok even if diversion is given through the new bridge. But I often see in this area, nobody follows the traffic rules. All are in urgency to reach home before the one who drives in the front. Won't follow the vehicle line. Its difficult to control the local busses here, they hate other people who drives in thr front. So it will be hectic one month to survive. They scarified the wearing coat on top of the slab once and provided concrete again. Its better to provide bitumen surface than the concrete, because bitumen surface can be repaired easily, may be by overnight. People travelling to Airport should consider the time and plan we'll. Thank you
